Stereocontrolled Synthesis of Cis-2,5-Disubstituted Tetrahydrofurans
Scott D. Rychnovsky and Paul A. Bartlett; J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1981, 103, 3963-3964

The synthesis of polyether antibiotics is currently receiving considerable attention.
A particularly challenging aspect of this work is the stereocontrolled construction of
the substituted tetrahydrofuran units found in many of these natural products, particularly
those units in which there is a cis relationship between substituents at the 2 and 5 positions.
